In fact, it is these countries which have experienced astounding exponential growth in smartphone usage, adoption of high-speed data networks, and internet connectivity. Since 2010, the population of emerging markets that are online worldwide has shifted from less than a quarter, to more than half of the total population in 2018, outnumbering internet users in developed markets by more than double.

Corresponding to the trends of online payment methods, e-commerce, and convenience, businesses trading within emerging markets are being pressed to rethink their business models, and invest in digital.
